ReBoat at the GTI International Conference 2025

The ReBoat Project was strongly represented at the 10th GTI International Conference, held in Gozo, Malta, on Thursday, 30 October 2025, where key discussions focused on how islands can transition toward sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism models. ReBoat contributed to Session 6: “Innovative Practices, Nature-Based Solutions and Tailored Policies for Sustainable Tourism in Islands,” a pivotal moment for exploring forward-looking solutions adapted to island contexts.

The session, moderated by Amar Djedaoun from our partner Greening the Islands Foundation, brought together international experts to address the ecological pressures, seasonal dynamics, limited land availability, and infrastructure challenges faced by islands worldwide. Speakers from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), the Gozo Tourism Association, ASCAME, and the Interreg Euro-MED Programme enriched the debate with both global and regional perspectives.

Representing ReBoat, Project Coordinator Prof. Marcello Colledani (Politecnico di Milano) illustrated how circular and nature-based innovations can reshape island tourism systems. His contribution highlighted the potential of waste-to-value pathways, resource-efficient strategies, and ecosystem-centred approaches to support sustainable and locally rooted development models.

ReBoat partners Eleftheria Klontza (COSMOS) and Gianni Chianetta, Chair and CEO of the Greening the Islands Foundation, also contributed to the session, reinforcing the project’s commitment to advancing circularity, stakeholder engagement, and low-impact tourism solutions.
